I'm in no way a John/Teyla shipper (McShep all the way) but I would have *loved* to see ( this )

...before reading it.
There's hardly a more awful reading experience than reading a story that's really well written, makes you feel for the characters (you already care for, of course), lets you feverishly hope for a good ending for them and then it ends on a note that leaves you depressed and frustrated because you really, really hoped for one kind of ending and what you got was pretty much the opposite. :-(
It doesn't faze me the slightest bit if it's a story I don't care for because I don't enjoy the style, the topic isn't my cup of tea or the author failed to attract and grip my interest. But *darn* if it's a truly good, well written story that sucked me in until the end and then - *blam*.
Which doesn't mean the end isn't good or right or the best way to end the story - with the kind of authors I'm talking about here it usually *is*. Which pretty much is the problem, I guess. It's probably the most fitting end for the story, just not the one I prefer and want to see.
Yes, I know, that's my problem but that doesn't make the experience more pleasurable. *sigh*
