Chevron 7.2 - Part 1

patkMeanwhile I’ve read a lot of other people’s reports on the events of Chevron 7.2 last weekend and I’m glad to see that most of the attendants have enjoyed themselves and the encounters with the guests. I have nothing major to add to what’s already said, just a few very, very subjective impressions of the guests, based on what I personally experienced or observed. Perhaps others have made different observations or had different experiences or even saw the same thing but got a completely different impression, that’s perfectly possible. So, this is not about objective facts, this is about, well, subjective impressions and interpretations and I’m going to post a few scattered remarks over the course of the next few days in the random order I can think of them.
Colin Cunningham. He’s so noticeably different from his character, so contrary to “Paul Davis”, that it’s hard to believe that the man attending the con is the same one who plays Davis. Dressed in a colorful jacket and a bandanna he looked more like a pirate than an officer. ;-) He was outgoing, very likeable, chatted with the fans outside of the proper events and initiated contact in a very natural, casual way.
When we queued on Friday for registration, he jumped and jogged through the room excitedly and took photographs of the fans and the queue and I asked the friend who was with me “Shouldn’t that be the other way round?”
Later this weekend we met him in the elevator, he had his hands full with carrying a cardboard box and immediately started a chipper conversation with us. No awkward “do not look at strangers in the elevator”-situation for which I was eternal grateful. Interacting with him felt absolutely uncomplicated. Of course, this could, to a considerable extent, also be the result of me not having a giant crush on him and therefore not feeling as if I could faint at any given moment and make a fool of myself. ;-) Makes things like that significantly easier. *g*
From what I could observe while standing in line for autographs, Alexis Cruz and Peter Williams were equally nice to their fans. I got the impression they weren't quite the same extroverted types as Colin Cunningham seems to be but they still enjoyed meeting their fans and as far as I saw they were smiling and chatting and their fans had all around pleasurable encounters with them. I've never had more than a fleeting acquaintanceship with SG-1 so, meeting two actors from this series was comparatively relaxing, so to speak.
Stringing together two coherent thoughts about a certain other guest OTOH was and still is somewhat difficult, but I’m working on that for the next entry. *g*

I managed to miss both stage talks by the SG-1 guys (queuing for Joe's signing during the first one, and in the Joe guest encounter for the second one), but Colin seemed to great with the fans. On the last morning, a group of us were standing in the lobby at 8.30 in the morning, ready to go, and he came up behind us and said "group hug!" and hugged us all. We'd seen him go past a few minutes earlier, and had jokingly said that we should have shouted (amusing, non-serious) abuse at him, as he'd talked about in the final panel. We told him this, and he laughed. Then he asked us if we'd had a good time, and one of our group said, "It was great. Except for you. You sucked," and we all laughed.
I really cannot imagine anyone daring to say something like that to any other con guest. He was just so natural and easy-going.

Date: 2009-03-01 05:59 pm (UTC)And oh, what an encounter! Yes, Colin Cunningham is really an exceptional outgoing and approachable guy. You know, someone like he should be mantadory for every con, just to keep the cheer up for the fans, no matter what goes wrong. ;-)

He gives you the impression of being a perfectly normal person, someone who could easily belong to your circle of friends, that's how "normal" he feels, doesn't he? :-)
